A 3 Step Guide To Making Sure Your Air Conditioning Is Ready For Summer

Posted on

With the summer heat just around the corner, now is the perfect time to make sure your air conditioning system is ready to keep you and your family cool all summer long. This task is a three-step process. You can learn more about each of these three steps below.

Step #1: Change Your Air Filter

Your air conditioning system works by pulling in the hot air from around your home, cooling this air, and finally distributing the cool air through the vents in your house. When the hot air is pulled in by your cooling system, this air passes through a filter to ensure dust and other debris do not make their way into your air conditioning unit. Over time, this filter can become clogged and prevent proper airflow. That is why it is important to replace your filter periodically. How often your filter will need to be replaced will depend upon the quality of the filter you choose to purchase. While some filters are expected to last several months, others must be replaced each month. No matter what type of filter you choose to purchase, it is always a good idea to make sure you are starting out the summer season with a clean filter.

Step #2: Have Your Ducts Cleaned

Even with the use of a filter, it is possible for some debris to make its way inside your cooling system. This debris will often build up inside your vents and can make it difficult for cool air to pass through the ventilation system and into your home. This debris can also result in breathing problems and other health issues if it becomes airborne. You can avoid these issues by having your vents professionally cleaned each year before the start of the cooling season.

Step #3: Have Your HVAC System Professionally Serviced And Inspected

Most HVAC contractors recommend having your air conditioning system professionally serviced at least once each year. The reason for this recommendation is that professional maintenance can help identify minor issues before they become more serious and ultimately allow you to avoid a cooling system failure. Annual maintenance is also a great way to make sure your warranty coverage remains valid and to help ensure your air conditioner is operating as efficiently as possible. In most cases, the best time to have your air conditioning serviced is right before the summer season begins. This will ensure that your system is able to meet the high demand that comes with the rising temperatures while allowing you to avoid the high cost of emergency repairs.
